Todd Wilson

Introduction

My name is Todd Wilson. I have over 20 years of experience in management, marketing, and communications, and have been active and accomplished in the leadership of a non-profit organization for over seven years.

Before the downturn in the economy and a financial crisis led to the elimination of three departments, I served on the leadership of the Barbershop Harmony Society for over seven years, including almost three years on the Board of Directors and almost five years on the staff as Director of Marketing. Concurrent with those duties, from 2004 to 2006 I also served as Director of Membership. I managed four direct reports, worked with almost 1000 volunteer leaders across the USA and Canada, and was responsible for creating and managing an annual budget of $2M.

As with many non-profits, resources were limited and we had to wear many hats:

  • Created and produced events to generate media coverage; One event drew an audience of 14,000 people and was broadcast around the globe;
  • Raised $300,000 through the production and promotion of concert events in conjunction with our international convention.
  • Raised $15,000 through a partnership with Naked Voice Records and iTunes;
  • Supervised and deployed media campaigns that brought unique stories to broadcast audiences numbering in the millions;
  • Created social media marketing campaigns that generated a return of $25 for every dollar invested;
  • Supervised media relations for public events honoring folks like Bill Gaither, the Oak Ridge Boys and even the Dapper Dans of Disneyland;
  • Served as primary spokesman and media contact;
  • Contributing member of the editorial board responsible for publishing bi-monthly magazine;
  • Produced numerous radio and television spots, and placed media buys both locally and nationally;
  • Created press kits, backgrounders, and media advisories which generated local and national stories in major print, radio, television, and online media;
  • Produced professional voice-overs and provide narration for commercials and multimedia presentations; 
  • Taught classes on strategic planning, marketing, and public relations;
  • Supervised the design of hundreds of display ads and logos for a variety of programs and events;


Prior to my most recent position, I spent one year directing the sales of print advertising for the largest employment newspaper in the Dallas/Fort Worth market, four years managing a 20-state territory selling radio jingles and IDs, and 14 years in telecommunications. Ten of those years I ran my own business and managed as many as 11 direct reports.

I am a member of several national organizations and have utilized this membership to network with other association executives, explore strategic alliances, and to stay in touch with current best practices.  This has led me to become quite skilled at incubating solutions to organizational problems.
